 3.2 Allotment Inspection

An allotment inspection was undertaken on Monday, 6th March, 2006. Mrs. Good, accompanied by the Chairman visited all three sites and found them to be in excellent condition for the time of year.
 3.3 Maldon Hall Allotment Site - Shed, Plot 12b

A request has been received from a tenant seeking permission to erect a shed on the above plot.

 3.4 Bee Keeping

a. To receive and consider information regarding beekeeping on allotment plots from "Growing in the Community - A good practice guide for the management of allotment" published by Department of Environment, Transport and Regions.

 3.5 Questions from the Maldon and Heybridge Horticultural Society
  4. LEECH MEMORIAL GARDEN

Members are informed that a meeting of the members of the public wishing to form a group to care for Leech Memorial Garden was held on Saturday, 4th March, 2006 at the home of a local resident. The group elected a Chairman, Mr. Stichbury, a Secretary, Mrs. Norrington and a committee of 4 members and after discussions visited the garden. A second visit was made on 5th March to consider how best the garden could be improved. Other topics considered were the funding available from the bequest, whether the group would need to consider having a Constitution and the installation of a byelaw banning alcohol from the garden. A working party has been arranged for Saturday, 25th March from 10.00 a.m. to start tidying the area.
  5. INSTALLATION OF BENCHES AND LITTER BINS

To receive and consider quotations for the permanent installation of bins and benches at St. Peter's Churchyard and Leech Memorial Garden.

St. Peters Churchyard
To construct concrete pads to install 4 benches
To secure two new benches to concrete pads (brackets supplied)
To supply brackets and secure two existing benches to concrete pads

Leech Memorial Garden
To install and secure two litter bins in concrete

ST. PETER'S CHURCHYARD

External Lighting
Members are informed that installation of the external lighting around St. Peter's Tower and the Plume Building has been completed and that the security fencing will be removed in the near future. The top surface of the pathways will be completed in the Spring when the weather improves. Members may wish to consider holding a formal "Switching On" ceremony for the lights and it is suggested that prior to the Full Council meeting on Monday, 3rd April, 2006 may be a suitable occasion before the evenings draw out. Information regarding a lamp post design for the garden area will be circulated at the meeting.
 5.2 Wood Sculpture

It was agreed previously that a diseased tree against the rear of St. Peter's Churchyard should be partially felled to allow the trunk to be carved as a tree sculpture. In this respect, to receive and consider sketches for the sculpture design.

Further to minute 71 of the Environment Committee meeting held on 24th January, 2006 members are informed that the Maldon District Council Green Spaces Conference has been postponed until a later date.
  9. DOG FOULING

Further to minute 72 of the Environment Committee meeting held on 24th January, 2006 to receive a response from The Animal Warden, Maldon District Council.
